Divadlo pod Palmovkou, formerly known as S. K. Neumann Theater, is one of the most significant Czech drama theaters with a long and successful tradition. It was founded in 1948, making it one of the oldest continuously operating Czech theaters. Over the course of nearly eighty years, it has been home to a number of outstanding directors and actors who have significantly shaped modern Czech culture. It is housed in an Art Nouveau building in Prague’s Libeň district. In addition to its main stage, it also presents productions at the PalmOFF Studio’s chamber scene.
The theater and its productions have won numerous professional awards, including the title of Theater of the Year 2018, awarded as part of the Theater Critics’ Awards.
From its beginnings, it has focused on staging powerful stories with profound social and human resonance. In its programming, it has long sought to combine classic dramatic works with current themes and contemporary approaches to directing and set design. The repertoire consists of both modern interpretations of classic dramas and new adaptations of non-theatrical source material, as well as original contemporary texts.
Divadlo pod Palmovkou’s productions are characterized by exceptional performances, an emphasis on the collaboration of the production team, and a sensitive treatment of current social issues using modern stage technologies and video projections. Our goal is to tell stories that touch each and every one of us.
